Chicago Metropolitan Area // 2012-2014
Beacon Academy is an independent high school in the Chicago area opening in 2014. Beacon Academy explores what secondary education looks like when it is rooted in Montessori principles and reaches out to the world. This progressive school will offer students an empowering learning environment, providing the skills and experiential connections necessary to contribute to a complex and diverse world with compassion and confidence.
The Third Teacher+ team is using the design process to uncover Beacon's emerging community and illustrate values as they form. We are weaving the steps of the design process in with the school opening process– curriculum, program, team, development, recruitment, and organizational functioning. The collaborative relationship between the founding board and design team allows for dynamic co-creation. We look forward to the translation of this process into an signature program, iconic design, and growth plan for the future.
