North Shore Country Day School
Winnetka, Illinois // 2011
North Shore Country Day School is a pre K-12 community rooted in tradition that challenges each member to develop a passion for active, life-long learning and respect for others.Cannon Design prepared a campus master plan for North Shore Country Day School (NSCDS). The campus is comprised of 12 lower, middle and upper school buildings on a 16-acre site.
Cannon Design and The Third Teacher+ team held a summit at NSCDS that brought together design and education experts, which was a critical component of the master planning process. The Summit was an opportunity to place the discussion of the future of the NSCDS facilities in a broader context. Cannon Design believes that the educational environment should be a learning tool both within the classroom and outside the classroom, on the campus as a whole. It is important for the facility to enable educators to prepare students for living in the 21st century. The design solutions, driven by a balance between tradition and progressive education, addresses NSCDS’ educational goals, site development and building needs and outside influences.
One year after completing a master plan for North Shore, Cannon Design began work on conceptual planning for a renovation of the Upper School. The renovation provides spaces that reflect the unique teaching and learning model that is specific to North Shore.
What happens when authentic learning studios replace traditional classrooms?
